Caudothalamic groove: value in identification of germinal matrix hemorrhage by sonography in preterm neonates.
A prospective study of 25 consecutive premature infants under 1,500 g was undertaken to evaluate the frequency and sonographic appearance of subependymal germinal matrix hemorrhage. In all 12 sonographically positive cases, the hemorrhage was initially imaged in the area immediately anterior to the caudothalamic groove. Special attention to this area permits early detection of germinal matrix h...
متن کاملCorrelation Study of Various Factors with Germinal Matrix-Intraventricular Hemorrhage in Preterm Neonates
The objective of this paper was to study various maternal and neonatal factors in relation to germinal matrix hemorrhage in preterm neonates. It was a hospital based observational study. The subjects included 120 preterm neonates with ≤34 weeks gestation with birth weight between 500 gm to 1500 gm admitted in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of SDMH Hospital. Various maternal and neonatal risk fact...
متن کاملRisk Factors Associated with Germinal Matrix-Intraventricular Hemorrhage in Preterm Neonates
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study is to identify the risk factors associated with the development of germinal matrix-intraventricular hemorrhage (GM-IVH) and the relationship of the severity of disease and prematurity. METHODS A total of 168 premature neonates whose birth weight ≤1500 g or gestational age ≤34 weeks were examined by cranial ultrasound (CUS) for detection of GM-IVH among the ...
متن کاملSubependymal cysts in normal neonates.
We undertook a prospective ultrasound study of subependymal cyst formation in normal neonates. Twenty five of 500 normal Chinese neonates (5%) were found to have subependymal cysts. Most of these (18 of 25) showed no obvious perinatal insult. This study suggests a rather high incidence of concealed intrauterine subependymal haemorrhage in normal term neonates.
متن کاملGerminal matrix hemorrhage-intraventricular hemorrhage: pathogenesis and outcomes
Germinal matrix hemorrhage-intraventricular hemorrhage (GMH-IVH) is one of the CNS injuries affecting preterm infants occurring in about 15%–20% of subjects weighing less than 1500 g. Currently, using ultrasonography, we recognize three grades of GMH-IVH. Grade I involving the subependymal parenchyma and/or extending in less than 10% of the ventricle, grade II with intraventricular bleeding not...
